Practice Meet & General Info
Parents -
We still have volunteer positions unfilled for Thursday's practice meet. Two of those jobs are Stroke and Turn judges. We cannot run this meet, or any meet, without Stroke and Turn judges. If you have trained for this role, please sign up. This Practice Meet is a great way to learn more about the role in a low stress environment. Also, as a reminder, there is one last Stroke and Turn training session on Sunday at 4pm at Blairwood.
Additionally, you may have noticed some additional meet declaration and volunteer links have opened. A few notes:
- Declaration for Monday meets will close the Wednesday prior at 11:59pm. Declaration for Thursday meets will close the Friday prior at 11:59pm, with the exception of the practice meet which closes Tuesday, June 1st.
- We have not had a “normal” swim season since 2019. We also have a new building on campus with new rules. So, there are many things this season that are new to all of us. We are making an effort to create documentation that will better explain the swim season; but this takes time. And all of the folks you see doing this are volunteers with full time day jobs. So, be kind.
- If you are looking at the volunteer options and are concerned about making your point total for the year, we encourage you to sign up for some higher point total roles (if it is a role that you are interested in, but the system won’t allow you to sign up, it requires training so please email). It is imperative we fill the higher point roles to run meets. We have a lot of parents that have graciously volunteered for these roles for many many many years. Their children will soon age out. To assure a smooth transition in the coming years, it is imperative younger families get trained for these roles this season while we still have ample experience on the pool deck.
- Once all roles for a meet are filled, training shifts will open up. These are shifts spent training on one of the higher point total roles. Training earns higher point totals, as well.
- There will be more point earning opportunities throughout the season (not all meet related).
- There are a few regular (~3) volunteer roles available that can be done outside of the meets. If one of these may better suit your family, please reach out.
The website now has an Important Links section on that landing page. In addition to parent meeting and volunteer description slides, we have added documents explaining how to read a heat sheet and how to mark your swimmer for a meet. Additionally, you will find the flyer for the June 2nd Dine to Donate at Jaggers. This is our last fundraiser of the season, so please share the flyer with friends and family and remind them to tell the person that takes their order to add JCC to the name on the order – i.e. Kiley JCC.
A few general notes for meets:
- Unless otherwise noted, meets begin at 6pm. The home team begins warm-ups at 5pm and the away team at 5:30pm.
- On average, the first half of the meet wraps up around 8pm, and the meet ends between 9:30 and 10. This is an average. Sometimes it is quicker, sometimes slightly longer.
- We often go out to eat after meets. The location is determined by what is close, can accommodate the group, and efficiently serve everyone in a reasonable about of time. There is no pressure to attend, but fair warning - the kids LOVE this part.
- Try to have your swimmer marked before leaving for the pool, or leave time to mark your swimmer once you arrive.
- Make sure your swimmer has their suit, googles, towel, chair/blanket, water bottle, and any snacks or entertainment they may want for the during the meet.
- If you have a pop-up tent, you may want to bring it. Many of the pools have little to no shade, and hot swimmers are cranky swimmers.
